The Rehab Neural Engineering Labs (the Rehabilitation and Neural Engineering Laboratory) at the University of Pittsburgh are at 1622 Locust St, Pittsburgh. The lab’s intracortical BCI page says it is investigating whether intracortical microelectrode arrays in motor cortex can give high-degree-of-freedom control of a robotic arm.

- Robert Gaunt, PhD, associate professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, lists his interests as sensorimotor control and neural interfaces with the brain and peripheral nerves for sensory restoration and motor control: https://www.rnel.pitt.edu/people/robert-gaunt-phd
Where the papers place them
- The 2013 Lancet paper on 7-degree-of-freedom control lists affiliations including the University of Pittsburgh (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Bioengineering, Neurological Surgery), the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Pittsburgh, the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition and the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
- The 2021 Science paper on tactile sensations lists “Rehab Neural Engineering Labs, Pittsburgh, PA”, the University of Pittsburgh departments above, and the VA Center of Excellence in Pittsburgh.
Device entries
- 7 degree-of-freedom neuroprosthetic arm (Collinger, 2013)
- Bidirectional BCI with tactile feedback (Flesher, 2021)
