Mouse studies with drawn polymer and tin fibers
This is a paper-level overview of the 2015 study, not a count of independent cohorts. It links the multimodal polymer fiber and tin multielectrode fiber, keeping their functions and endpoints separate.
Integrated polymer-fiber experiments
Published Figure 2 places design I probes in the medial prefrontal cortex of Thy1-ChR2-YFP mice. It shows simultaneous optogenetic stimulation and recording at two days, one week, one month and two months after implantation. The displayed stimulation uses 5 ms pulses at 10 Hz over one-second trials. Endogenous recording at one month contains two separable neuronal units; that example is not the total cohort size or a two-unit ceiling.
The same figure reports CNQX delivery through the fluidic channel with a reduction and later recovery of spike amplitudes. Its comparison lists n = 3; the accessible caption does not identify that n as three animals, so no animal count is inferred. Supplementary Figures 6-8 add acute optoelectrophysiology, waveform checks and bicuculline perturbation. Stimulation trials are not silently counted as mice.
Tin-fiber experiments
Published Figure 3 includes spontaneous single-neuron activity in an anesthetized wild-type mouse, two separable units, multiple recording electrodes from a chronically implanted probe and optically evoked activity in a Thy1-ChR2-YFP mouse. Its 20-trial peri-stimulus histogram is trial-level evidence, not an animal cohort count. The caption does not establish that the larger 36-electrode fabrication variant supplied these recordings.
Histology is a different endpoint
Figure 4 quantifies IgG, GFAP, Iba1 and ED1 around multielectrode probes and microwires at three days, one week, two weeks, one month and three months. It reports n = 6 for each device/time point and 120 analyzed images. Those images are not 120 animals or 120 independent experiments. The three-month tissue endpoint does not extend the integrated-polymer two-month functional recording claim.
Scope
This is mouse neural-circuit research, not a human BCI, a speech/motor decoder, a human trial or evidence of a commercial product. The MIT atlas brief is the grounded organization relationship. No PI designation or later affiliation is inferred from authorship.
